The first COVID-19 vaccines received approval from regulators less than a year after the WHO declared a global pandemic in March 2020. This speed was undoubtedly a triumph. At the same time, the EU’s early approach to purchasing and rolling-out vaccines was criticised as slow and haphazard.
As the pandemic progressed, the EU’s response grew more effective – yet what lessons can be learned? What did the EU get right, and what did it get wrong in terms of drug and vaccine development during the pandemic? What lessons can be learned for the next pandemic?
We put some of YOUR questions on this topic to a panel of experts:
💬 Olga Solomon, Head of Unit, Medicines: Policy, Authorisation and Monitoring, EU Commission
💬 Virginia Acha, Global Lead, Global Regulatory Policy, MSD
How is the EU preparing for the next pandemic? What could Europe have done better during the COVID-19 pandemic? Could the vaccine development process for other diseases be sped up because of the lessons learned? Let us know your thoughts and comments in the form below and we’ll take them to policymakers and experts for their reactions!

Sorry, but whenever the questioner or the debate moderator constructs a question and is skilfully broadening the scope or reach and refers e.g., to Europe (44) instead of the EU (27)- I ask myself- how should one respond?
Should one ignore any deeper (political) intentions, or be honest but risk being seen as a cynic?
I hope that most Europeans regardless of counting themselves to the EU27 or the E44 have gained considerable trust in our scientific community and applaud them & all nursing staff for having done a Stirling job! And maybe gained better rational thinking?
Not sure what the EU27 Commission in addition to its members contributed, apart from trying to act as a wholesale negotiator, commentator or maybe a ‘poseur ‘on behalf of their national members?
Väldigt ointressant

You will give us the science you want to achieve the solutions that make money which you don`t need to make us poorer and more controlled. You have the remedy for problems that you create and manipulate the science to justify it. Global warming is another example.

Dissolve EU now
Health care debate, sponsored by pharma. I rest my case.
No more globalism, no more European socialists and communists. Take down the corrupt WHO. Freedom and self-determination. Close laboratories working on genetic modification.

Well we saw early on that when countries actually thought they were dealing with something dangerous all treaties and accords were ignored. It was every country for itself, shipments of medical supplies were even stolen en route by governments.
How about you guys took a serious look at the covid “vacine” science, and stopped pushing it in a manner that indicates corruption or incompetence?? 2 years on almost and still no permanent authorisation for this genetic therapy experiment??? Why is that? Because the “vaccine” has not fulfilled its promises. How can you guys even mention science and back those very stupid and inadequate policies? Also being paid by Pfizer or what?? We are fed up, with scientism and industrial lobbies. That’s not the Europe we want for the future, and you guys should start doing your job instead of being mere yes-men for the non-elected and highly corrupt European “executive body”.

I have learned that world and national institutions, and all the big media, should be promoted from “untrustworthy” to “potentially hostile to citizens.” And the medical and scientific community is jumping to the rank of “untrustworthy” because of how their representatives behaved.
I’d rather hear from doctors and virologists about this then from bureaucrats and pharmaceutical companies, thank you.
Mrna vaccine development, along with genome sequencing are game changers for medical science…both of course will entrench big pharma and richer nations in the deployment of these….the ethical question will always be whether to, and how to provide to others.
