Will we finally see the end of the pandemic in 2022? The World Health Organization (WHO) is hopeful that this year will mark the end, at least, of the “acute stage” of the pandemic. However, this will mean international cooperation and efforts to boost vaccination rates. New variants could still emerge, of course, but we have all the tools we need to defeat the coronavirus if we use them effectively.

In April, French President Emmanuel Macron is up for re-election. Polling suggests he will likely face either conservative Valérie Pécresse or Marine Le Pen, of the far-right National Rally party, in a presidential run-off. Macron has tacked to the right in this election, particularly on immigration.

If the pandemic ends this year the world has an golden opportunity to change for the better in every aspect of our lives just like it happened after 1945. Unfortunately nobody will take a lesson from these 2 years which showed us how wrong everything is.
