trump-clintonOn November 8th, the United States will choose its next president. It’s a choice whose consequences will be felt not just in the US, but all over the world.

It is, of course, up to the American people who they decide to elect (unless Trump loses, in which case it will no doubt be the conspiracy of “election riggers” who decided). Nevertheless, it is legitimate for other parts of the world to debate, discuss, and wring their hands in worry as the most powerful country on Earth picks its next commander-in-chief.

It’s tempting to say that Europeans should “stay out of it”, and we shouldn’t debate an election in which we can’t vote. However, this is one of the most-watched political events in the world right now. Even British brexiteers, who champion sovereignty and non-interference, have been out campaigning hard for their preferred candidate. It is, therefore, quite proper for us to open up the discussion here, and ask you what you think.

So, Hillary or Donald? Which candidate do YOU think would be best from a European perspective? Let us know what you think in the poll below:

Who would you vote for in the US presidential election? Who do you think is the best candidate from a European perspective? Let us know your thoughts and comments in the form below, and we’ll take them to policymakers and experts for their reactions!

Both are wrong choices! But yet Trump is slightly better choice then Killery – there are too much crimes around her and it is extremely stupid exactly Killery to talk about sexual relations when we all know what Bill did!
And I really liked Trump’s speech in Gettysburg – exactly what we should do here in EU! The establishment, as he call it – their version of our EU useless corrupted bureaucrats, must be changed!

      Duncan

Oh, ok so Hillary is Bill Clinton then? So any untowards sexual activity Bill Clinton was involved with Hillary Clinton is guilty of too? So by that logic, Donald Trump’s wife is guilty of any sexual violence that Donald Trump is guilty of? You sound like you’ve swallowed Trumps marketing hook line and sinker. “Don’t look at how bad I am, look at Hillary!” What a sales pitch! For a start the man has no previous political experience, so of course he’s never abused political power. But he is a rich businessman who wants to give rich business owners tax cuts. He’s manipulated the tax system to avoid paying taxes on the profits of his vast business network, and wants to rig the system even more in his favour, and he’s duped morons into supporting him in his goals. He’s constantly changing what he says about almost every point of view, at best this makes him indecisive, at worst that means he’s telling whichever lie best serves him at the time. And the best case scenario there, he’d be an indecisive leader, how can that be a good thing? Hillary Clinton represents business as usual from US government, not exactly an ideal situation I’ll grant you, but compared to Donald Trump in charge it would be a million times worse than anything America has seen before, and it’s America’s poorest people and the rest of the world that suffer the worst from him winning.

So you would support Hitler just because he had a good point or two.

Bill is not running. You can’t find even one pro-trump point and you think a supposed billionaire is not part of the establishment… good grief…

Obviously would vote for Donald J. Trump. What kind of idiot would vote for a corrupt that are pledged to serve the Goldman Sachs and the Wall Street, the arms lobby and to warm up the war in Syria?

As we all know, Donald Trump is a poor boy coming from a modest family with no connections to big business.

Hmm….. rapist, racketeer, embezzler, racebaiting, authoritarian. Or a corpratist, soft policied, third world destablizing, career politician. Hillary, Trumps colours are running and revieling someone out for person gain over anything else

The problem with Greece was, because they didn’t have any support from another state’s, and they let the EU control then

EU nationals for Britain to remain

Democracy is the least worse form of government known to mankind, so we should always choose democracy over other worse forms of government.
Hillary Clinton is the least worse form of president in this presidential election, so voters should ensure they vote Hillary Clinton over other worse forms of presidents like Donald Trump.

    • avatar
      Tarquin Farquhar

@EU Nationals For Britain To Remain
You are welcome to stay in the UK but keep your anti-democratic, unaccountable and corrupt EU views on the continent.

The flood, nay torrent, nay deluge of EU incontinent-alists domiciling in the UK within such a short time-period is de-stabilising the UK.

I fear more outbursts both verbal and physical against EU incontinent-alists as the UK locals become more and more upset about the instability caused by EU foreigners that live in the UK (c80% of which are not classified as skilled) putting their unwanted tuppence worth in.

I fear many years of instability, volatility and hostility UNTIL EU immigration is curbed/controlled – not necessarily stopped.

      GonEprata Megarp

Lol dont worry, he supports one of those manipulators, who that goes for president that cannot manipulate something? besides being manipulated is a thing people are very good at, why is hillary in risk of becoming president and not in prison?

America is a two party state, the non democrat/republican candidates never win. Any and all votes for “third party candidates” are equivalent to spoiling your ballot paper. Great, you made your protest clear that you dislike both candidates, but one of them will still win.

  7. avatar
    Horea Scalat

In spite of their rhetoric, Hillary and Trump are eerily similar and not in a million years would I vote for any of them. The extreme tribalism of american politics is the only reason why their supporters so vehemently embrace one and oppose the other.
    I’d vote for Johnson.

  8. avatar

They are other candidates. This question is very easy to answer once you accept that the other candidates must be respected.

Hillary is dangerous for europe she wants more immigrants and bombings and of course again Europe is going to pay usa way of act, remember immigrant and econimical crisis=made in usa.
both are nuts but Trump is a bussinesman so he will work for economical grow and not military-war like hillary

    • avatar
      Jean-Pierre Rosa

You must be joking. Have you seen trumps foreign policy proposals and thoughts on nuclear proliferation? Have you seen his economic plan? Guess not..

    • avatar
      Mike Grek

well he hasnt connections with islamists like hillary (via her helper whose grandfather or uncle i dont remember openly sponsored terrorist organisations) does so thats a big + for him (Trump) 1

    • avatar
      Claudia Faccin

If Hillary wants more immigrants that will only benefit Europe, it’s a world humanitarian tragedy and the USA largely contributed to it. Trump would build up a wall against any kind of immigrants, and would (At least) help Putin bombing the conflict zones. At least we’re not the only ones handling this situation, a military strategy needs to be adopted anyway. I’m not saying Hillary is the best choice ever, but Trump is a unexperienced, racist, demagouge, sexist, fatalist, childish man. He didn’t pay taxes too, he can’t control himself in a debate.

  10. avatar
    Ricardo Lourenço

I would vote yes, but not in either one of them. Blank vote. And if everybody would do the same the system would need to reconfigure itself.

Isn’t one thing glaringly obvious – how undemocratic the election campaign is? According to the official rules, if a candidate does not receive 15% support BEFORE the elections, they ARE NOT ALLOWED to take part in TV debates and spread their message to the electorate! During the previous campaign in 2012 Jill Stein was even arrested for simply trying to participate in a presidential debate! In USA it is a crime for the candidates from the smaller parties to make their voices heard through the official media on equal terms with the big parties. You are only allowed to know about candidates from the Democratic or the Republican Party. They are doing everything possible to keep their monopoly on the political life in USA and to not let anyone else endanger their grip on power. American people are not allowed a choice. The media silence has succeeded – most are considering only two options – Hillary or Trump. The other candidates have been brutally suppressed. I personally like Jill Stein from the Green Party who seems most sensible of all. She was arrested this year, too, while taking part in a demonstration of the Native Americans against the oil pipeline from North Dacota to Canada. This pipeline is a big problem for the native people because it is running through their sacred grounds and is a danger to the environment along its route, especially the rivers. Jill Stein is the only candidate with principles that are closest to the European ones and seems most humane of all. Gary Johnson doesn’t know what Aleppo is (???!!!), while I don’t know anything about Evan McMullin. No matter how much I see Hillary and Trump on the TV screen, I don’t think any of them is good for the future of USA and respectful to the American people and the environment. This campaign is a huge reality show, but a very long one and I can’t wait for it to finish! Don’t want to see any more the faces of the witch and the wacko quarelling on TV and flashing their dirty laundry around! They are both a disgrace for their country!

If US citizen i would have probably gone for Trump. Minding that both are terrible candidates to begin with. However Trump’s immigration policies, especially targetting moslems are urgently needen in EU. I belive that since there is strong need, tt’s only a matter of time till such a man appears.

Trump would win in Eastern Europe easily, they have Viktor already and want some more. among Southern Europeans those nostalgic of the fascist dictatorships of Portugal, Spain and Italy, and of the fascist occupation of Greece, would vote Trump. Those Southern Europeans that support democracy would vote Bernie (if that were an option), or Jill – or Hillary, has the lesser evil. Ukip supporters in the UK would vote Trump, and so would a fair amount of Tories, and right-wing and Front National voters from France. Scandinavian countries, which used to be a sort of progressive haven, are now breeding neofascists like mushrooms, and so are The Netherlands. Germany, well, western Germany would vote Hillary, eastern would vote Trump. The European Union, by way of the present Commission and the previous one, has been dealing with the financial crisis with neoliberal economic policy which, unsurprisingly, is feeding a rise in inequality. and so it is useful to have someone to blame hardship on – immigrants, southerns, Muslims, or who-ever-so-long-as-not-yourself-and-the-policy-you’re-implementing is a political discourse trick that works every time, if coupled to a good dose of nationalism. it worked for Hitler and, sad to say, it’s working again. Someone said it above already, Europeans, of all people, should know their history. They don’t – and it hasn’t even been a 100 years yet.

  32. avatar

Trump. Hillary is corrupt warmonger, and should not be running. Also she will be in prison soon, most likely

  35. avatar
    Fábio Cláudio

First I don’t like both. Second both are corrupt. Many people say that Hillary is a corrupt and be part of establishment, this is politics, fair or not is how politics works with many backstage games and don’t matter who became POTUS, all play dirty when they need to play dirty. But Trump also is a corrupt, he break the law sometimes and admitted in campaign. So, in a European perspective I preferred Hillary win, I preferred a predictable POTUS in terms of foreign policy rather than unpredictable one. One final thing, what is important is the day after elections, regardless who wins, both will change many measures of them campaign certainly.

  36. avatar

Hilary Clinton without a shadow of a doubt! One has to be very naif to believe trump is an outsider! Trump is a product of the system and a rotten one.

Those who come to this site believing this election in the USA has nothing to do with them are naive and lacking information. Whoever is the leader of that hell hole is also our ‘unelected’ leader. It is that country that leads us into war after war decade after decade. Clinton is a crazed war monger. She is insecure and has a psychotic desire to prove to Bill she can give him all he wants. They call us their coalition forces. However, continuous war is an American policy. And if that mad old stenking fat arse gets in power, we will realise we face what those in Syria are facing. She hates Europe to its core. And wishes to destroy it.

So, although Trump is not known for his welfare practice, he does not wish to destroy us.

Trump is the only hope we have. I vote for Trump.

    • avatar
      thomas jefferson

I agree entirely. The obama administration has destroyed the US and the freedom of its citizens-CLINTON WILL ONLY ADD TO THIS DESTRUCTION, DECEIT, LIES, CORRUPTION, ETC. obama is running scared knowing full well he is as deeply involved in the CLINTON SCANDALS AS THE CLINTONS ARE. SEND HIM BACK TO THE JUNGLES OF KENYA- IF THE COUNTRY ACCEPTS UNDOCUMENTED IMMIGRANTS WHO ARE KNOWN TO BE CROOKS

  42. avatar
    thomas jefferson

In my opinion the democrats from the top(obama) to the most corrupt(clinton) are more than likely lying to the American public. All of their lies have finally caught up with them. They have run out of lies to cover up their previous lies

  43. avatar
    thomas jefferson

My comment is awaiting moderation-no surprise as the corrupt control the free thoughts of the American people-prove me wrong by posting my comment. If you do not post it you are admitting I am right and the politicians from obama on down are all exposed to criminal charges to be brought by the FBI. Hopefully the FBI can still enforce the laws of the U. S. Constitution and are not restrained to enforce U. S. law by the current regime in power. If this is the case the democratic country known as THE UNITED STATES IS GONE FOREVER. Ruled instead by the lying, greedy, deceitful people in positions of power today.. Waiting for your decision but not expecting a favorable one as to posting my comments as this would weaken and erode your control of the AMERICAN PEOPLE……………I AM STILL WAITING AND WILL CONTINUE TO DO SO.

      The real danger is Trump.

  44. avatar
    George Grammatopoulos

Even though past experience has demonstrated that Hillary Clinton is far from reluctant when it comes to use of force, she has enough skill to restrain herself. Which may prove to be less costly to US’s European allies.
Donald Trump’s lack of experience and personal agenda will make him a puppet in the hands of the far-right wing of the Republican Party, resulting in many more interventions than those of the Obama presidency. Which will in turn mobilize needlessly NATO, OSCE and other regional organizations, ending up in millions of euros lost in vain.
As for the other three, when they come up with an appropriate agenda, I will consider it, but for the moment they lack tremendously in foreign policy positions.
I believe the Clinton presidency is the best case scenario for Europe.

    • avatar
      catherine benning

      George Grammatopoulos

Your post shows categorically why Europe should not be part of NATO. We are being led by the nose around the ring. And the White House thinks it funny. It of course being decided by the Wall Street payers.

Both these candidates are not suitable for any European office and especially Clinton. Her performance to date is horrendous and shows quite clearly that she, rather than Trump, is unhinged. How can you not see that?

She stays with a man who is accused of rape. Who has numerous sexual participation with, and a long adulterous twelve year affair with a woman he paid to have an abortion. Yet, she screams that the ‘women’ he screwed are to blame. Then tells us she is a feminist who doesn’t stand by her man Tammy Wynette style. It is laughable and humiliating to women. She makes women look stupid in the extreme.

She engages in unskilled, unplanned war against a people in order to take over their democratic country. Havoc being created for millions of women and children. Then laughs as she jokes about assassination of a leader because the US doesn’t like his moves to financially stabilise his country by buying gold, he is not jumping to their tune and must go. Want to be on the end of that drone? The elephant in the room with Syria is going to rise up in your face if she is elected, make no mistake about that.

She has been at the back of enforcing poverty and mayhem on the American people, it was her husband who withdrew welfare from the unemployed with her wagging his tail. She and her crown have used European men to die in their war practices and you want to vote for her to kill a few more. She and her party are behind the mass migration from the third world into Europe creating mayhem and discontent. Yet you see her as preferable to Trump, whose biggest complaint is, he said he could grab pussy as he is rich man.

      You have to be kidding.

      https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0EGBOMvBrZw

Trump has nothing close to the horror show she and Bill are and will be toward Europe if the idiots in the States put a cross to her name. Remember the words, ‘Feck the EU.’ Victoria Nuland. Who do you think she was aping?
